Our Lady of the Take and Toss
Self Portrait from New Saints

Jennifer Brown is a photographer with more than a decade of experience. She’s photographed large political conventions, intimate birth experiences, products, editorial concepts, and documentary stories.

Graduating with honors and a B.A. in Fine Art Photography and Film from Virginia Commonwealth University, Jennifer has been working with a variety of clients for eleven years. Most recently, she’s been coaching artists past creative roadblocks to find their voice, and tell their story. Each coaching experience was accompanied by editorial style photography sessions in support of the artist’s narrative. Some of the particularly evocative images have made their way into her series, The Contemporary Female Artist

In Mothering, Jennifer explores her early experiences with motherhood. Featuring her two children in relationship to her body as well as the interactions between friends and their children, Jennifer presents the forced intimacy, diverse emotions, and bond between mothers and their children.

In 2019, Jennifer was granted a three month artist residency with Unruly Retreat, and she was featured in the first edition of Newly Cyclical Magazine for her current work in Progress, New Saints. Thus far, New Saints is examining feminist concepts, women’s lived experiences, symbolism, and traditional Christian iconography,
